Update 10/16/08
Greetings Families:
Here is a look at the rest of this week into the next:
We will finish up "Frog and Toad are Friends" tomorrow and move into "Wilson Sat Alone" for next week. The focus lesson for next week is centering on characters and their feelings. In Grammar we will continue to review types of sentences. Please look for a Language book that will be sent home for your children to use when practicing Language skills. Students can also use the Harcourt link at our website tp practice the skills. Thank you!
We are continuing to gain "fact power" in math. Please practice basic facts with your child everyday. Just 5 minutes each day will vastly improve their memory and give them the edge they need for sloving math problems. Our Unit 2 test will be next Friday Oct. 24.
In Social Studies we will begin our Elections Unit on Monday, with a look at our government and the importance of voting as a citizen of the U.S.A.! Our test on Chapter 1 will be tomorrow. We had a GREAT review today. Ask your child about the activity!
Thanks so much for all of your support!

Update 10/6/08
Greetings Families,
Here's a peek at what we are doing in 2nd grade this week.
Our story is Henry and Mudge Under the Yellow Moon. We are looking at the inflections -ed in phonics and Spelling. We are also listening for the different end sounds that -ed makes.... "ed", "t", and just plain "d".It is tricky because all of those sounds are spelled the same way...-ed! In Grammar we are looking at commands and exclamations and our focus strategy in Reading is self correcting errors. Our focus skill is the narrative element of the setting. The students are writing stories about October with the emphasis on the details of what we hear, feel, smell and taste in October.
In Math we are working on our fact power by looking at the doubles facts and turn around facts. Keep practicing those Rocket Math sheets!
In Science we will finish up Chapter 1 with a review sheet that will be sent home this Friday. We will have the chapter test on Tuesday, October 14th.
We are continuing our look at cities and suburbs in Social Studies. We are also still learning about landforms in our Maps and Globes.
Please remember that our class is helping the Elmer Rotary run "Alex's Lemonade Stand" at the Elmer Harvest Festival on October 18. Please contact me or Mr. Jansky and sign up for a time to help out. THANK YOU so much!
Next Monday, October 13th is Columbus Day. There is no school!
Enjoy this beautiful weather!
