News and Notes 9/19

Hello Families!

It was great seeing you at Back to School Night, and all of the Grandparents today!

Here is a look at what we are working on this week and into next:

Math: We are reviewing place value - ones and tens place - and practicing the hundreds place. We have been counting by 2's, 5's, 10's and playing addition top it as well as the Money Exchange Game and Penny Cup. Please make sure that your child knows their facts to 10 securely, as we are starting the higher facts to 20 soon!!!

Language Arts: We have been working on sentences. Students have been identifying sentences and non sentences and have been fixing ones that don't make sense. There will be a quiz on this on Friday. Next week we will be looking at statements and questions.

Reading: We have been practicing echo reading with our selection and the little books. We have been talking about the theme of our story - Being Comfortable with me! We will have a test on The Mixed Up Chameleon on Friday.

Spelling: -id and -ide words have been practiced this week. We will have the Spelling test on Friday. Remember, the Spelling pages can be done ahead of time (for that week's words) if you have an especially busy night.

In Science we will begin our Unit on Sound. The kits have arrived!

Social Studies: We are discussing what makes up a community. We will continue this study throgh the next few weeks.

Have a great week!
