Season's Greetings!
This week in Second Grade we are working on our "secrets' and practicing our songs for the Holiday Play. We are looking at the phonograms -ar, -arm, -ark in Spelling and phonics. Our reading strategies this week are compare and contrast and reading ahead for understanding. In Grammar we are practicing capitalization of proper names / nouns. We will have the tests on Friday- Spelling, Selection and Language cumulative review. Your children can practice all of the Language skills learned so far online at the Harcourt link on this website. Since the tests are a cumulative review, using the site for practice is an excellent way to improve skills previously learned.
In Math we are looking at different strategies for adding 2 digit numbers. Please continue to practice all of the addition and subtraction facts from 18. We will have the Unit 4 test next Tuesday, Dec. 18th.
A Look Ahead:
Tuesday, Dec. 18th - 1:00 Dismissal - No Lunch - "A Pre-Historic Christmas" Play - Students should arrive at 6:45.
Wednesday, Dec. 19th - All school field trip to the Pitman Theater to see "Charlotte's Web".
Thursday, Dec. 20th - "Holiday Cheer at Elmer School" - All day holdiay events rotating through all of the classrooms! FUN, FUN, FUN!
Friday, Dec. 21st - John Flynn assembly, PTA Holiday Party, 1:00 Dismissal
Have a Wonderful Holiday!

Update Dec. 2nd
Greetings Families!
December is here and the crafting has begun! Throughout this week, in Language Arts we will be looking at: what it means to make inferences, r-controlled vowel / or/ our, capitalizing titles of people, and creating story maps with a "juicy problem" from a picture prompt as well as our selection "Hedgehog Bakes a Cake". For a fun treat, we will bake Hedgehog's cake on Friday. The selection, Spelling and Language tests will also be on Friday, Dec. 7th.
In Math we are starting our new Unit 4 more Addition and Subtraction. PLEASE practice the facts at home with your child - up to and from 18. It is so important that the facts are memorized at an early age for future math success. Also keep practicing coins - making change, counting various amounts, showing different coins for the same value. Thank you!!
We will begin our look at the holidays this week with the celebration of Hanukkah. We will look at the history, listen to a story and play the Dreidel game.
Our student of the week is Micheal Denton. Stop in and check out Micheal's favorite things!!!
Enjoy the Season!
