Update Feb. 4th

Hello Families!

Just a few reminders and pieces of information to keep you informed as to what's happening in our class this week. Our week will end with our 100th Day of School! Please remember to have your child bring 100 pieces of a snack food for our special "100th Day Trail Mix" to school. Also we will be counting, sorting and classifying all of the foods that have been donated for Peter's Pantry. We will incorporate the new Food Guide Pyramid into the activity, as well as counting by 5's and 10's. THANK YOU!

Also, please let me know if you can send in a little something for our class Valentine's Day party on Feb. 14th. You can call me, email or send in a note. THANK YOU!!

This week we are looking at inflected endings for plurals: -s, -es, -ies. We are also practicing using possessive nouns. Our story "Pumpkin Fiesta" will finish out the theme and the first 1/2 of our Language Arts series. Next week the students will take a mid-year test to see how they are applying the skills learned so far this year. I have seen so much growth!!! I am sure that you see it as well! I am so proud!

All of the students have "book bags" that contain leveled readers in their desks. As each child reads the books "at their personal level" they are completing "book report" forms independently. As they complete ther "bags" they get new ones. This is a very exciting way for the children to explore new books, gain independence through personal responsibility and strengthen their reading skills all at the same time!

In Math we are starting subtraction with trading this week. You may remember it being called "regrouping" or "borrowing". We will practice, practice, practice! Thank you for your support at home of this new skill. Please call or email with ANY questions! The students have been doing a daily word problem as well. They try it independently and then we go over the strategies for solving the problem. Once again, so many of my students are excelling!!! Keep up the great work!

Our student of the week is Danny Harris. Some of his favorites are football, Kraft macaroni and cheese and playing Guitar Hero. Great job Danny!

Enjoy the calm weather!!!
